Spinal decompression therapy is a safe, effective method of chiropractic care that is recommended for the treatment of sciatica. If you are experiencing lower back pain, numbness or tingling down your back, hips, buttocks, and leg, and muscle weakness in your leg, then you may have sciatica. Make an appointment with one of our chiropractors for a diagnosis and find out if undergoing spinal decompression in Rockwall is right for you.

What Conditions are Treated by Spinal Decompression Therapy?

Spinal decompression therapy is used as a holistic, non-invasive treatment method for conditions that affect the sciatic nerve. This includes:

  • Chronic, recurring, or severe lower back or neck pain;
  • Sciatica, the symptoms of which are pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling that extends from the lower back down one leg;
  • Bulging or herniated disks;
  • Degenerative disk disease;
  • Worn-out spinal joints (called posterior facet syndrome);
  • Injured or diseased spinal nerve roots.

What to Expect from Spinal Decompression Therapy

Before undergoing spinal decompression therapy, one of our chiropractors will do a full examination and take your medical history. We will diagnose the underlying cause of your back pain or sciatica, and determine if spinal decompression therapy is right for you. If it is, you lie down fully clothed on the traction table. We will use a computer to control the motorized traction table, allowing it to gently and safely stretch your spine. As your spine moves back into alignment, bulging or herniated discs retract back into place and pressure is released. Your sciatic nerve will no longer be compressed. This will relieve many of your symptoms. Treatment may last 30-45 minutes, and we may recommend you undergo 20-28 treatments over the course of 5-7 weeks.

Are There Any Risks or Side Effects of Spinal Decompression Therapy?

There are very few risks or side effects associated with spinal decompression therapy, and most patients are able to immediately resume their regular daily activities with no downtime. The procedure itself is unlikely to be painful or uncomfortable. In rare cases, patients have experienced some stiffness and soreness after the procedure, but these side effects are mild and temporary.
